This client found me online after spending extensive time curating a well thought out Pinterest board of inspiration images. This was her first time doing a custom piece although she loves jewelry and owns many beautiful items. She inherited several baubles, none of which were her style. She prefers clean lines with a quiet elegance that highlight the stones. For this particular necklace revisioning, we decided to set the diamonds into bezels in a curved centerpiece attached to a solid link cable chain. In its first incarnation, the curve was not subtle enough for the center five diamonds in articulated bezel links. Second time around, all the links were articulated and while it sat well on my neck, it flopped forward a bit on hers. But third time was a charm. Using the necklace, I had her curve it exactly as she envisioned. I photographed that to use as a reference. This time, the center was stationary, in the precise curvature that she saw in her mind’s eye. She absolutely loved it! Not only did this necklace sit beautifully on her neck, but it truly showcased the diamonds. While this may not have been a custom design, this project did have its challenges. The diamonds were slightly graduated, not calibrated, so each bezel was just a little different in size. We used all 15 full-cut natural diamonds, set in 14k white gold with a 14k white gold cable link chain. I was able to credit the original inspiration necklace as well as several other yellow gold pieces. The biggest takeaway from this and any project is that sometimes a piece needs multiple stages of refinements to reach the desired end goal. But working hand in hand with the client and seeing them light up when their vision is achieved is absolutely priceless.
