Creatively Preserving Sentimental Value

This project was a fun one. A longtime client of mine was cleaning out her jewelry box and came across a solo earring and a ring without a stone. Both items were gifts from her husband so they held sentimental value. We explored all possibilities: from simply scrapping them to unseating the diamonds to make something else. There was not a huge dollar amount in scrapping and the cost to redesign exceeded the value of both of the diamonds as well as the mountings. So while she was visiting the shop and we were exploring options, I fiddled around and had that lightbulb moment. Why not combine both to create an entirely new ring? This solution ended up costing about the same amount as the scrapping value, which ended up being far less than a complete redesign. When she came back to pick this up there were a few happy tears – a testament that the sentimental value was in fact preserved. I just love helping my clients find the perfect way to repurpose meaningful jewelry. One of many reasons I’m so thankful to do what I do.
