I have known this couple for many years. I made the engagement ring, wedding bands and wedding gifts for them. They are part of a strong family culture; most of the jewelry done and given holds much meaning for them. The gifts have always been very thoughtful and given with much love.
Baby #1 was born last September, a beautiful loved child who looks just like his mother, with his father’s coloring. The little one has a name that is longer than he is at this point. His mother is as big as a minute while dad is a gentle giant.
name necklace for first Mother’s Day
She showed dad some images of name necklaces that she liked, but the necklaces were costume, not made with karat gold. So they came to me for ideas.
We used text and email for initial sketching and figuring. Visuals are almost always best. Many times I use common things like a coin to give scale rather than measurements.
I laid out the letters in 14k yellow gold with a cable link chain that I had in stock and suggested a bezel-set birthstone for September. Ends up he had a curb link chain that he inherited from an great aunt, along with some other pieces of jewelry. Yes, that was perfect for the finished necklace. The only adjustment needed was to shorten aunt’s chain from 16 inches to 14 inches – mom really is tiny!
initials dog tag for first Father’s Day
When mom came into the shop, masked and physically distanced, to have the necklace shortened, we pondered what to do for dad’s first Father’s Day. He wears a cross on a chain all the time. Both were gifts from his parents and grandparents.
Her initial thought was a dog tag style pendant to wear with the cross on the same chain. The cost was crazy expensive, so my suggestion was to do a mini tag to wear behind the cross with his sons initials and birth date keeping things close to his heart!
We did this in 14k yellow gold, and it measures about 3/4 inch long x 1/2 inch wide.
Because she is home with the baby, and we are still in a quasi quarantined state, we figured this out via text messages. Also, she wanted it to be a surprise!
