This particular customer found me online, all the way from the West Coast. She asked me if I wanted to explore the possibility of creating a more delicate pearl necklace from a strand of pearls she already owned, but did not wear often. Of course, I’d be happy to help! As our conversation continued she thought about including a pair of earrings – something that dangles from a stud. Again, of course! For the earrings, a head pin with a decorative tip was needed as the pearls from the necklace are drilled through. To attach the pearls to anything, one needs to work with the drilled area. This client requested to have the pieces done in sterling silver since she rarely wears yellow gold. Not to mention, silver is kinder on the wallet. My suggestion was to re-string a few of the pearls on a simple silver chain. The original strand of pearls will hang just below that for a layered look. (The original yellow gold clasp is at the back of her neck, likely hidden by her collar or her hair.) The addition of the earrings, were the cherry on top. And so from one piece of jewelry we got three!
