the color of this stone is difficult to photograph because it changes in different light. this particular alexandrite goes from a bluish-green to a purplish-red. above, one photo is daylight and the other is taken in incandescent light. notice the blue from the window leaking daylight affecting the color… fascinating!
alexandrite is a most unusual stone due to this natural hue shift. it was discovered in Russia and the change can be the royal colors of red and purple. the discovery was named after czar Alexander.
