This client wandered into the shop after liking what she saw on my website. With her 35th anniversary and a milestone birthday both quickly approaching, she realized that her wedding set was in need of some TLC. Her engagement ring, a marquise cut diamond simulate, had started showing some wear and was not nearly as sparkly as it once was. I just knew that a lab grown diamond would be a perfect solution for this redesign. I brought in a variety of marquise cut lab grown diamonds for her to sort through. She fell in love with one that happened to be larger than her original. This meant we’d need a new crown to secure the size of the new stone. She wanted to change how it was set, opting for a bezel instead of the original prongs. The bezel had to be special ordered because of the size of the diamond. I did some doodling, and suggested the new engagement ring be done in white gold, while also incorporating the original yellow gold wedding band and engagement ring. A new set by fabrication! With all of these modifications we could easily have done an entirely new ring. But she just loves her original and what better way to pay homage to the original set than to repurpose them in a fresh, new way? The rings are soldered at the base, with the design of the set spanning the length of the diamond. The bezel is a modified martini style setting and exposes the belly of the diamond so lots of light can dance in and around – just what she was seeking. The prongs from the engagement ring needed to be removed and the by-pass in the new ring needed to be extended. Once my work was complete, she returned with her husband and I was so touched by how much they both loved the new wedding ring design. This client has beautiful hands and the new, larger stone looked right at home upon her ring finger. Big, big smiles all around – and just in time for a double milestone celebration.
