He first visited the shop on a Saturday after finding me through a Google search. He arrived with a clear vision, a thoughtful budget, and a desire to create an engagement ring that would be as unique as the woman he loved. To better understand the direction of the design, I asked him about his fiancée-to-be: her personal style, the jewelry she wore, and the life they shared together. It was especially helpful that he brought photographs of both her and their home, providing valuable insight into her aesthetic and allowing us to create something that truly reflected her personality. His initial idea centered around a salt-and-pepper diamond. These distinctive diamonds are known for their visible inclusions, giving each stone a unique, organic character. Wanting to explore that option, I sourced several exceptional examples for him to view. Although one stood out as a favorite, there was a lingering question of whether it truly suited her style. After thoughtful conversations, including input from her closest friends, we all reached the same conclusion: while she would appreciate something distinctive, she would likely prefer the timeless beauty of a clean white diamond. Rather than making the center stone unconventional, we chose to express her individuality through the design of the mounting. I sourced a selection of both natural and lab-grown diamonds, and to achieve the size and quality he envisioned within his budget, we selected a stunning round brilliant-cut lab-grown diamond. From there, the design process began in earnest. I shared sketches, inspiration images, and CAD renderings, allowing him to refine every detail. Together, we settled on a floral, vintage-inspired design with timeless appeal. I then customized the original concept by incorporating a tulip-style six-prong platinum crown, hidden accent diamonds beneath the center stone, and slightly larger shoulder diamonds than those shown in the initial CAD design. The finished ring was crafted entirely in platinum and set with lab-grown round brilliant-cut diamonds. The result is both elegant and enduring, classic in style with thoughtfully personalized details that make it uniquely hers. When he returned to pick up the completed ring, his excitement was unmistakable. He shared his proposal plans: a photographer discreetly waiting at their favorite spot on their property, followed by a surprise celebration with both families gathered at home. As every jeweler hopes to hear… She said yes.
