I’ve had the pleasure of working with this client for quite some time. As a collage artist, her jewelry reflects her vibrant spirit and keen artistic eye. Recently, she began revisiting pieces in her collection, discovering several rings she no longer wears, but still deeply loves. Rather than letting them sit unworn, we collaborated on a thoughtful redesign. Our goal was to preserve the integrity and character of each piece by transforming the rings into pendants, using the original shanks (bands) to create custom bails. This process presented a unique technical challenge. Because the rings were originally handmade and assembled, and silver conducts heat exceptionally well, traditional soldering methods could risk damaging delicate stones. To address this, we utilized a modern advancement in jewelry repair: laser welding. This precise technique allows us to work on highly localized areas without exposing the entire piece to heat, ensuring the safety of fragile elements. The result was two beautifully reimagined pendants, each carrying the history of the original rings. Now they’re ready to be worn and enjoyed in a whole new way.
