This client lives up the road from my studio. After searching online for somewhere local to get an engagement ring he came across my photo gallery and loved what he saw. He wanted a Montana sapphire which, as you might’ve suspected, is mined in the great state of Montana. He had a specific size, shape and color in mind for his girlfriend. It is my experience that when working with colored gemstones one should be prepared to compromise a bit if necessary, as was true in this case. This stone was exactly what he wanted for color and shape but the size was just 1mm smaller. This small sacrifice in size more than made up for just how stunning this gem is. This is a well-cut stone so the light really dances around and when viewed from different angles, the colors become more and more evident. It really is a wonder to behold. To accent the sapphire, he chose lab grown pear-shaped diamonds with high color and clarity. The shape of the diamonds draws the eye up to the sapphire without overshadowing it yet gives it a nice pop of sparkle. The design is a classic three-stone engagement style ring with cathedral style shoulders. The stones are all set in prongs with the tips of the diamonds protected by teeny heart-shaped tips – an element spurred on by my inner hopeless romantic. He had a very specific date for his proposal so time was of the essence. And just as we hoped, it arrived. He proposed. And was met with an ecstatic, “Yes!”
