This lovely couple wandered into my studio a few years ago and purchased two pairs of earrings for their daughter. They returned for a consultation/evaluation of some pieces that had been left to them by loved ones. While visiting, we took a look at her engagement ring as well. She loved the emerald and the way the light played in the stone but was frustrated that the prongs were constantly getting snagged. I suggested a bezel for the center stone. The prongs on the diamond accents were fine. Upon closer examination of the ring, I noticed there were several cracks on the underside. The costs to repair were beginning to exceed the value of the mounting so I suggested resetting all of the stones into a new mounting. This would allow us to keep the aesthetic of the original but upgrade it to include a nod to her proud Irish heritage. The new ring now has Celtic knots on each shoulder and into the center of the knot a bezel was assembled for each of the diamonds. The emerald was set into a bezel as well with the belly of the stone exposed like the original ring. When this couple came to pick up the ring, Irish eyes and Irish mouth were all smiles!
