A Canadian Diamond That Wows

A longtime client of mine referred her son to me. He was an extremely kind man with classic taste who had a very clear vision of what his intended would love. We began with a search for a diamond that spoke to his heart. I brought in a few stones that fell within his parameters. We were in agreement that the quality of the diamond was more important than the size. I showed him a range of stones, all laboratory certified, all round brilliant-cut diamonds. I have a fondness for the Canadian stones. The mines to our north are fairly new in lodes and many of the stones mined there have better color and clarity than stones from other parts of the globe. Additionally, you get a complete dossier on the chosen diamond – documents that include the mine, the original weight of the rough, the date mined as well as the finished weight, color and clarity. It’s very interesting. Once we narrowed it down, he returned this time with his mother and a very close friend of the family. I displayed three diamonds for them. I did not immediately show the certificates, allowing his eye to go to the diamond that spoke to him. However, I did acknowledge that one of the diamonds was from a Canadian mine. The friend immediately picked up on the Canadian stone and whispered to me…his mother wisely said, “This is your diamond, it is your choice.” He asked questions about each of the stones and kept going back to the Canadian one. I provided certificates on all three so there were no unanswered questions or second guessing. And then, it was official, he chose the Canadian stone. He had a very special occasion planned to pop the question and of course, she said yes!
