This client was referred to me by her father. She had two beautiful rings that were passed down to her for her engagement. I had recently worked with her father on an estate appraisal filled with family jewels that were left to him by his mother – her grandmother. For this visit, she came in with an inspiration image from Pinterest which is always very helpful. We discussed what was important to her and her fiancé as they were looking to repurpose these pieces for her own engagement ring. This heirloom ring’s stone is round and ideally she wanted her wedding band to fit up against the engagement ring without any gaps. She also wanted lots of light for the diamond so that it’d really sparkle. They both love the floral accents on the shoulders in her inspiration photo, as do I. The very first thing was to unseat the center diamond from a very outdated ring that my father had done 30-some-odd years ago. Once that was complete, we worked on sketches for the CAD renderings. The setting for the large diamond is a customized tulip-style crown. I slightly enlarged the openings in the prongs to let in more light, as she requested. The shoulders are bead-set with single cut diamonds in a stylized fleur-de-lis. The finished ring came out exactly as she envisioned. It’s incredibly fulfilling getting to see the reaction when a client loves the final outcome.
