I’ve had the pleasure of helping this client with numerous pieces. With her mother’s recent passing, she was starting to sort through and wear some of her mom’s favorite jewelry. Her mother was charming, with a larger-than-life personality and jewelry that reflected just that. This client planned to fashion some of her pieces, with only simple changes needed. Things like sizing rings, reshaping necklace collars or reconfiguring a necklace into a bracelet. But this particular Betsy Johnson statement necklace needed a little more finessing. For a more timeless look, I replaced the oxidized base metal chain with sterling silver. I then re-added the extra dangling elements – bird, heart and bow – that collectively make this such a wonderfully unique piece. By using sterling silver, the contrast with the other elements truly makes everything pop, making a bold statement in a way that was very true to her mom’s vivacious persona. Now wherever she wears this piece her mother will “fly” right alongside her heart.
